A&D is often recommended by tattooists for client use and is a cost-effective  tattoo healing option. If you're booked in to get new ink or have just gotten your latest tattoo, using A&D Ointment as part of your aftercare regimen could be the right option for you.

Read on for a breakdown of the pros and cons  of using A &D Ointment .

Why is A&D Ointment a good product for healing tattoos?

A&D Ointment contains both Vitamin A and D to treat abrasions and minor wounds  simply and easily .

It also keeps the skin supple and naturally protects it from outside organisms  and bacteria  by sealing the area off with a thin layer of ointment .

A+D Ointment  contains useful skin protectants lanolin and petrolatum  to help with dry, chafed, and healing skin.

The products are fragrance free, phthalate free, and doesn't contain dyes or parabens. Essentially, if it's recommended for a baby's  butt, it should be good for y our healing skin.

A&D is also useful because it comes in a range of product sizes, so you can take it with you for every situation where you m ight  need to apply it.

What are the pros of using A &D  ointment?

Some of the benefits A&D provides include:

  • Reduction of initial hard crusting and long-term scabbing
  • Less damage underneath the tattoo scab while healing
  • Prevents infection and irritation
  • Decrease in healing time but not too fast as to cause damage
  • Hydrates, moisturizes and protects wounded skin

What are the potential cons of A &D Ointment ?

Despite being a tremendous product for tattoo aftercare, ther e a couple of drawbacks  to using A&D Ointment . Potential issues can include:

  • A&D is p etrol at um based, so not efficacious for the entire tattoo healing process and can clog pores if applied too thickly or too often
  • It's not a range of products specifically designed for tattoos , saw it's not tested for every type pf collector
  • A&D is not a n  ointment for long term tattoo aftercare. After around 3 days of use, it's recommended that  you switch to a hydrating lotion or moisturizer

When should you start using A &D Ointment ?

You can start using A &D ointment  once the tattoo shop issued bandage has been removed, and you've cleaned the wound for the first time using a mild antibacterial soap. The best way to clean your tattoo is as follows:

  1. Wash hands thoroughly
  2. Apply foam cleanser or antibacterial soap to newly tattooed area with clean hands
  3. Gently rub cleanser into tattoo and surrounding area
  4. Gently wipe off remaining cleanser with a clean paper towel
  5. Pat dry excess (don't rub)

A freshly inked tattoo should be cleaned 3 times a day until fully healed and followed by the application of A &D Ointment  for at least the first few days.

After A&D  you can switch to a thinner, water-based lotion product to continue the aftercare process.

Water based moisturizers are most useful during the middle to late stages of your tattoo heal  as they help with scabbing, peeling, and itching skin .

What should I do if there are problems during my tattoo heal?

If you start having issues at any stage during the tattoo healing process, it's best to speak to your tattoo artist first. They have experience worth listening to and have seen a lot – both in the types of healing ink and the methods to mitigate issues.

The tattoo artist has a personal and professional stake in seeing your tattoo heal to its absolute best. They can make recommendations for changing your aftercare routine or advise you to see a medical professional if the issue is serious or  allay fears if you've gotten to that ugly part of the healing stage and freak out.
